Logo's are often considered the image of a product or service and is thought of as the center of all your branding efforts.
If you are trying to be ( or already are) a LEGIT company, you should have a logo. Either self made or professionally.
Now, sometimes you get your first logo and you just say " AWWW, this is perfect" and just throw it on your website and this VOILA! Everyone will love this. NOPE! That's now always the case. And sometimes when you do just so happen to land the perfect logo, after a couple years, it may be time to just do a quick face lift of it. Ya know, to keep it fresh and youthful.
But keep in mind, re-designing your logo can be just as tough as the coming up with the initial concept! Thing you have to think about are : How much do you actually want to change it? What should you keep/take away? If you do change it, will your current customers still recognize the brand you've built? After you've figured that out, here are a couple ways you can update your logo.
1. STRIP IT DOWN
These days, LESS is MORE. Try to get rid of all the excess or busy stuff that may be happening in your design. And lets face it, a simple clean design is much more recognizable than a super busy one. Take Starbucks for example. EVERYONE in the world knows that logo, so taking away the actual name STARBUCKS and just leaving the iconic lady figure, works just as well.
2. CHANGE THE FONT
This is probably the most simple and easy way to spruce up your logo. Even if its something super subtle like going from a Serif font to a Sans Serif. BAM!! Now if you are going from a Times New Roman to a Calibri light...slow down there hoss!!! It may change your logo into something you aren't fond of.
3. CHANGE THE COLORS
One click of the incorrect color could send your logo into a downward spiral. FAST! Colors generally relate to certain emotions and feelings. For example, the color blue is a cool color and is often regarded as welcoming ( Hence why we chose that color, or maybe because blue is our fav color, idk...) Red is a warmer color that is seen as feisty and energetic. Changing the color may seem subtle but going from one side of ROYGBIV to the other can be dramatic. Choose wisely.
A logo re-design to some may not be really important but in all honesty, it has to be done at some point in your businesses life. Determine what it is you are trying to do and use at least one, if not a combo of a few of the examples above. Always remain creative and inspired!
