Let's Chat: Sponsored Posts on Facebook

Ok, so let's chat. Sometimes when we are scrolling through Facebook and one of those random ad's show up in your timeline, you start to wonder, how in the world did that even show up? Well it's pretty simple, a company basically PAID to have those ad's place in front of you at the most opportune times.

Sponsored ad's are relatively new to the social media world and they are a lifesaver! Who knew that for a quick $2 investment, you could get maybe 10-15 new followers to your business page everyday? I mean seriously, how many of us can sit on Facebook ALL DAY LONG and talk back and forth with someone just for them NOT to follow you back or like your page. Not many.

So these ad's make it really easy to get noticed and they are broken down into several different categories:

1. Brand Awareness

2. Website Traffic

3. Social Engagement

4. To Buy Stuff

5. Get Video Views

6. Boost a Popular Post

Once you've narrowed down what it is exactly you are trying to do with these ad's then you can go to town! Now there are a few restrictions on these ads that SEEMINGLY shouldn't make a difference in the approval of the ad's by the Facebook God's, but we will get back to that.

1. TEXT ON AD IMAGES: The main one that's semi annoying to some is the fact that the image that you choose for your ad can NOT have a ton of words on it. BUT WHY? Someone took the time out to create a kick ass graphic and you cant even use it to advertise your business. The Response: Users prefer to see LESS text in ads. However, there are a few exceptions: Infographics, Movie posters, festival announcements and things of that nature.

2. AD TEXT: This part is the most important to us. Because if your ad doesn't have the most AWESOME leading statement, people likely will scroll right past it and not give it a second thought. Your copy should be engaging, to the point and to be honest, should be funny. Funny ad's are more likely to be viewed and shared and this is an obvious fact.

3. AUDIENCE: Now this is the portion where you can easily get overwhelmed ( we surely do!) Trying to decide what audience gets the pleasure of seeing your ad can cause you to literally want to pull your hair out. If you're advertising a local speakeasy, you don't want your target audience to be the Future Farmers of America or the Homemaker Society of Northern Greater City. You want to be as specific as possible. Facebook will allow you to narrow down your audience almost to an exact City and State.

4. BUDGET: If you're like most of America, your money is special and you don't like wasting it on frivolous things ( insert eye roll here.) BUT the best thing about Facebook ads is the ease of selecting exactly how much or little you want to spend on a specific ad. It's broken down "per day" and we've seen it as low as $1! In our opinion, the best way to get the most bang for your bucks is to choose the on-going campaign option. It give you a set monthly amount and your ad set just runs and runs until you turn it off. If you are forgetful, this is probably the best option for you. Otherwise, you'll look up and your bank account will be missing $3439 and you will probably flip a table!

There are a few other things you will need to know once you get in deep into the sponsored ad sunken place but for right now, this will get you going. And you know, you can always email us and we can handle this responsibility for you since we DO love to sit on Facebook all day and do that mindless banter!
